OBITUARY

Furneaux, WILLIAM LAKEMAN (BILL), born Feb. 26, 1906, died peacefully Friday, November 8, 2002. His grandparents (Furneaux, Morgan, Jackson and Oliver) were Texas pioneers and prominent ranchers who emigrated from Devonshire, England to the Peters Colony in the mid-1800's when Trinity Mills was a "greater city" than Dallas. As a student at Terrill School for Boys, Texas A& M and S.M.U., he was an outstanding athlete who was highly respected as he later was in insurance circles. He served his country as a bombardier in the U.S. Air Force in WWII. He was a recognized authority on Texas ranching history as well as English and family history dating back to 1066. He is survived by his wife, Lane, and by beloved nieces and nephews: Betty and Max Ligon and family of Dallas, Lee and Peggy Duggan and family of Sugarland and Houston, and JoAnn and Otha Jones and family of California, as well as the children of Furneaux Elementary School in Carrollton, who named him their "Grandfriend". Interment services will be Monday, Nov. 11 at 12:30 PM at Furneaux Cemetery, 1775 E. Rosemeade Pkwy., Carrollton, followed by a memorial service and visitation at 2:00 PM at Cox Chapel of Highland Park United Methodist Church. Dignity Memorial Rhoton Funeral Home I35 at Crosby Rd.
