Diane McParland Adair taught elementary school in Carrollton and Farmers Branch
for 23 years before retiring in
1979.
Mrs. Adair, 92, died July 2 of cancer at Walnut Place nursing home in Dallas.
Services were July 6. She was entombed in
Hillcrest Mausoleum.
Mrs. Adair became a teacher in her mid 40s, after raising her family, said her
son, Kent Adair of Dallas.
"She was real good at what she did," her son said. "She was kind of a late
bloomer."
Born in Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Adair attended San Jose State Teachers College,
now San Jose State University. She
moved to Texas after meeting Jimmy Adair, manager of the Dallas Eagles, Dallas'
team in the Texas baseball
league. Mr. Adair retired in 1976 after a 50-year career in baseball. He died in
1982.
Mrs Adair completed her bachelor's degree at North Texas. She returned to the
Denton university to earn her
master's degree in the 1950s.
Starting her career in 1956, Mrs. Adair taught at
R. E. Good Elementary, Web
Chapel Elementary and Woodlake
Elementary, all in Carrollton, and
Farmers Branch Elementary in Farmers Branch.
"She loved children," her son said.
Mrs. Adair lived in Carrollton for 56 years. Carrollton had 800 residents when
she arrived and Farmers Branch
had 350, her son said.
Mrs. Adair taught Sunday school for about 60 years. She was a longtime member of
the First Baptist Church of
Carrollton, before joining Royal Haven Baptist Church in Dallas 38 years ago.
She was also a member of the Farmers Branch Woman's Club, Delta Kappa Gamma
Society (a professional teachers
group), the North Forty Book Club and the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Retired
Teachers Association.
In addition to her son, Mrs. Adair is survived by two sisters, Marjorie McCoy of
Castro Valley, Calif. and
Genevieve Ferguson of Rogue River, Ore.; two grandchildren, and two
great-grandchildren.

ADAIR DIANE L. McPARLAND, in Dallas on Wednesday July 2, 2003, in her 92nd year. She
was an alumna of San Jose
University in California and the University of North Texas where she received
her master's degree. Mrs. Adair
was a longtime retired elementary teacher in the Carrollton Farmers Branch
I.S.D. teaching third and fourth
grades. She was a 4th generation Californian and was descended from the Wilson
and Evans families who had
sailed from their native England and arrived in what is known today as San
Francisco in 1845, and 1846,
respectively. The Wilson's are noted in the histories of early day San Francisco
as a prominent founding
pioneer family of that city. Her memberships include Royal Haven Baptist Church
i Dallas, where she was a
longtime faithful member until her death. She was active in the church's WMU and
was a Sunday school teacher of
various age groups for over sixty years. She, too, was a member of the Farmers
Branch Woman's Club, Delta Kappa
Gamma Society, North Forty Book Club and the Carrollton Farmers Branch Retired
Teacher's Group. Mrs. Adair was
the daughter of the late George H. McParland and the late Elizabeth Wilson
McParland; widow of the late James A
Adair; mother of Kent Adair and the late Steven Adair; grandmother of Aaron
Adair and Stephanie Adair Byrd;
great-grandmother of Bryson Adair Byrd and Brianna Byrd; sister of Majorie
McCoy, Genevieve Ferguson, the late
George McParland, the late Hubert McParland, the late Donald McParland, the late
Elizabeth Lewis, the late Amy
Ferguson and the late Rowena Woods. Friends are invited to attend her Service of
Remembrance, Royal Haven
Baptist Church, Sunday afternoon 3 o'clock July 6, 2003.
Dr. C. E. Colton, Dr. Earl W. Johnston, Dr. Thomas R. Peel, Rev. Robert H.
Phillips and Dr. Fred A White will preside. Private entombment will be in
the family crypt at Hillcrest Mausoleum. The honorary bearers will be Aaron
Adair, L. M. Bell, Ben Brand, Jason Byrd, Jerry Byrd, L. C. Craig, Richard
Eden, Kenneth Ferguson, Watson Frazar, Bill Hill, Douglas Howlett, John
James, Leland Lewis, Gary McCoy, David McParland, Larry McParland, Rick
McParland, Ronald McParland, Leslie Noell, Robert Richardson, Guy Thompson,
Martin Thompson, and Dr. William H. White. Flowers may be delivered to the
church after 12:30 o'clock on Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Adair will lie in state
two hours preceding the service, commencing at 1 o'clock in the church.
