OBITUARY

Kenneth Walton Altizer, Sr.
Mr. Altizer, 92, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at The Cove at Wilora Lake.
He was born September 11, 1916 in New Bridge, NY, a son of the late Dock Walton Altizer and Emily Lee Altizer. Mr. Altizer spent his childhood and most of his young adulthood in Dallas, TX where he met and married his lifelong love, Nancy Gene Butts, known to him as 'Doll Baby'. He left Dallas with his young family in 1949 to join his brother, Tommy Altizer, in Steel and Tank Service Company. After the retirement of his brother, Mr. Altizer continued to operate the successful business until his own retirement in 1978. He and Gene enjoyed traveling, especially with the 39 and Holding Club at Dilworth United Methodist Church, where he was a member for 60 years. Mr. Altizer served on the Board of Stewards, the Church Council and was also active in the Men's Bible Class. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, particularly deep sea fishing. Golf was his special interest during his early retirement years.
He was preceded in death on May 5, 2008 by his beloved wife of 68 years, Nancy Gene.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Kendall and her husband Don of Charlotte and Sandra McRae and her husband Joel of Midland, NC; son, Kenneth Altizer, Jr. and his wife Berta of Oklahoma City, OK; sisters, Texan Beaman of Avery, TX, Josephine Feuerbacher and her husband Alvin of San Antonio, TX and Emily Shanks of Richardson, TX; grandchildren, Laura Zacharczyp and her husband John of Huntersville, NC, Jonathan Kendall and his wife Tina of Cary, NC and Daniel Altizer and his wife Julie of Carmel, IN; great grandchildren, Joshua and Catherine Kendall of Cary, NC and Ethan and Ryan Altizer of Carmel, IN.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday in the Terry Chapel of Dilworth United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.
