OBITUARY

COONROD
REV. A. J., born July 26, 1912, went to be with his Lord and wife on March 23, 2001. He is survived by Dorthea & George Couch, Terry & Barbara Coonrod, James & Sandra Coonrod, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, & four great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday, March 25, from 5-7pm at Rhoton Funeral Home, Services will be Monday, March 26, 2001, at 10:00am at Rhoton Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hilltop Cemetery in Carrollton, Texas

OBITUARY

A. J. Coonrod
A. J. Coonrod, 88, March 23 in Lewisville. Coonrod was a Baptist minister for more than 50 years, and had been pastor of numerous churches in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He made more than 10,000 visits between 1992 and 1996 as volunteer chaplain at RHD Memorial Medical Center in Farmers Branch. In 1997, at age 85, he moved to Missouri to be the pastor of a church there. He returned to Dallas in 1997 after an automobile accident. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie. He is survived by his sons, Terry and James; daughter, Dorthea Couch; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Rev. Coonrod was the pastor of Trinity Baptist Church on Bee Street in Farmers Branch in the late 1950's and early 1960's

The Rev. Abner Jefferson "A.J." Coonrod

The Rev. Abner Jefferson "A.J." Coonrod, 88, died March 23 in a Lewisville nursing home after a long illness. Beginning in 1992 when he was 80, Rev. Coonrod logged more than 10,000 patient room visits as a volunteer chaplain at RHD Memorial Medical Center.

A Baptist minister for more than 50 years, he had served many churches throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area. During the early- and mid-1990s, he taught an adult Sunday school class and preached frequently at Belaire Baptist Church in Carrollton . His last pastorate began in 1997 when he was 85 years old at Manes (Mo.) Baptist Church. He returned to the Dallas area in 1999 after being injured in an automobile accident in Missouri.

He is survived by two sons, Terry Coonrod of Lake Dallas and James Coonrod of Palm Springs, Calif.; daughter Dorthea Couch of Kerens; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Coonrod, in 1998.

The funeral was Monday at Rhoton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Olen Price officiating. Burial was in Hilltop Cemetery in Carrollton .
