OBITUARY Dorthea Mae Coonrod Couch
Feb 9, 1936 - March 14, 2010
Dorthea Couch departed to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 14, 2010. Memorial
service will be at First Baptist Church, Malakoff, on Friday, March 19, at 10
a.m. with Pastors Gene Bishop, Darrell Lindsey, Matthew Smith and Dr. Russ Frase
officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Athens.
Dorthea was born Feb. 9, 1936, in Dallas, to Rev. A.J.
and Annie Mae Clark Coonrod. She attended school in Dallas and graduated from
Handley High School and Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She married
George Buster Couch on December 11, 1953.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother,
Terry Wayne Coonrod.
Survivors include her husband George; son, Mark Alan Couch and wife Ana of
Riverside, Calif.; brother, James A. Coonrod and wife Sandra, of Farmers Branch;
and grandchildren, Mark Alan Couch Jr. and wife Melissa of Riverside, Calif.,
Joana Mae Couch of Corona, Calif., and Patti Kochman of New Jersey;
great-grandchildren, Jarred David Kochman, and Conner Wade Couch; and a host of
nieces, nephews, former students and friends.
While in high school she was active in sports and was a cheer leader. She was a
bold witness for her Savior, faithful pastor's wife and an excellent vocalist.
She and George traveled in many states pasturing and serving in their "Following
the Son Ministry." Along with her ministry in song, she was noted for her
rousing testimony to the goodness of God.
She taught elementary and middle school in Oklahoma, Missouri, and Texas.
Dorthea and George worked many years in the Malakoff School System.
Service is under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home, Malakoff.
