OBITUARY CRIDER, GLADYS GRIFFIN
Survivors - Bettye C. Clem-daughter, Dr. C. Truman Clem - son-in-law,

T. (Casey) Clem, Jr. grandson, Kelly Crider Clem - grandson Lori A. Clem & Cara
A. Clem daughters-in-law, MacKenzie Elizabeth Clem - great granddaughter. Gladys
Mae was the youngest of nine children born to M. T. & Minnie Mae Harrington
Griffin in 1904. Her father owned substantial amounts in both Denton and Collin
counties. Her daughter & family still love on approximately 200 acres which is
part of the original homestead & is a registered Texas Century Ranch. This
section of land was given to Gladys' parents as a wedding gift & was a portion
of the 2,140 acres previously purchased by her grandfather, Alfred Harrington,
in 1849. He traded 6 sheep and a saddle horse without the saddle for this
property. From early marriage, Gladys & Her husband raised livestock, owned &
farmed vast amounts of land. Those very areas encompass the land where
Prestonwood Baptist Church, The Shops of Willow Bend & portions of The Colony
are today. Gladys was instrumental in assisting her daughter, Bettye, with the
opening of Toothacres Pet Care Center in 1967. She worked there from the age of
62 to the age of 75 when she retired to work in her garden. She was a life long
member of the Hebron Baptist Church & a member of the Eastern Star. On her 100th
birthday, she received a letter from her beloved President Bush & flags that had
flown over both the US Capitol as well as the state capitol. She voted in the
last Presidential election & immersed herself in current events. Gladys Crider
left a lasting impression on all those that knew & loved her. She was a
remarkable lady and will be sorely missed. Funeral services to be held on
Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at 2:00 pm at the Hebron Baptist Church in Carrollton.
