OBITUARY Services today for Educator Dale Davis
Services for Dale B. Davis, a retired principal of R. L. Turner High School and
retired assistant superintendent of the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent
School District, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Farmers Branch Church of
Christ.
Mr. Davis died of bone cancer last Sunday at his home in Tyler. He was 78.
Born in St. Louis, Mr. Davis received his bachelor's degree from Southeastern
State College, now Southeastern Oklahoma State University, in Durant, Okla. He
received his master's degree in 1947 from North Texas State College, now the
University of North Texas.
He moved to Carrollton in 1945 and served as principal of Carrollton High School
from 1945 to 1962. He remained principal when the school was renamed R. L. Turner
High School in 1962.
In 1967, he became assistant superintendent of the Carrollton-Farmers Branch
district, serving one year as principal of Central Elementary School during his
tenure. He retired in 1976 after 31 years in the school district. The
Dale B.
Davis Elementary School, built in 1975 in Carrollton, is named in his honor.
Mr. Davis was a former member of the Carrollton Church of Christ, the Josey Lane
Church of Christ and the James A. Smith Masonic Lodge, No. 395.
Mr. Davis moved to Tyler in 1984 and attended the Rice Road Church of Christ in
Tyler.
He is survived by his wife, Claudine Davis of Tyler; one son, Richard Davis of
Garland; one daughter, Mary Ann Clough of Tyler; one sister, Louetta Ames of
Fort Worth; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
