BIOGRAPHY George Debrell Dennis, known as "Dib", was named
after General George Gibbs Dibrell of the 8th Tennessee Cavalry, CSA. His
grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Dennis,
served under him in the Civil War. He was the son of James B. "Jimmy"
Dennis & Eliza Jane (Reed) Dennis. George was born on March 8, 1888 at
Oakley, Overton Co., TN, the son of Jimmy Dennis. He came with his
parents and 8 siblings to Texas in 1889, where they settled on a farm about
three miles east and one mile west of Farmers Brach at a place called Bright
Farm.
George attended the old Midway School in Farmers Branch.
He married Effie Barbara Leslie. She was born Oct 13, 1893 to John H.
Leslie & Alice (Snodgrass) Leslie. Their children were Claudine Dennis
(1913-1915), Howard Wayne Dennis, Maurine (Dennis) McKay, Horace Clyde Dennis
(1919-1928, who died in a fire), and George Dibrell Dennis, Jr.
George, like his father, was a farmer. He farmed the area around the
current location of Dennis Road and Farmers Branch Lane in Farmers Branch,
Texas.
Effie died on Sept 2, 1954 at the age of 61 and George died at the age of 91 on
Sept 1, 1979. They were interred at the
Keenan Cemetery at Farmers
Branch, Dallas County, Texas. Information submitted by

George Dennis Jr. both of Farmers Branch;
sisters, Flora Burgess, Dallas, Jayce Fletcher, Farmers Branch; six
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Services 11 a.m. Monday, Webb Chapel
Methodist Church, Farmers Branch. Rev. Gene Gordon officiating. Interment
Farmers Branch Cemetery, Farmers Branch. Pallbearers: David Dennis, Mike McKay,
Edgar Burgess, Harold Dennis,
Lloyd Fletcher,
Bobby Fletcher.
