MINI BIOGRAPHY

George Debrell Dennis, known as "Dib",  was named after General George Gibbs Dibrell of the 8th Tennessee Cavalry, CSA.  His grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Dennis, served under him in the Civil War.  He was the son of James B. "Jimmy" Dennis & Eliza Jane (Reed) Dennis.  George was born on March 8, 1888 at Oakley, Overton Co., TN, the son of Jimmy Dennis.  He came with his parents and 8 siblings to Texas in 1889, where they settled on a farm about three miles east and one mile west of Farmers Brach at a place called Bright Farm.
George attended the old Midway School in Farmers Branch.
He married Effie Barbara Leslie.  She was born Oct 13, 1893 to John H. Leslie & Alice (Snodgrass) Leslie.  Their children were Claudine Dennis (1913-1915), Howard Wayne Dennis, Maurine (Dennis) McKay, Horace Clyde Dennis (1919-1928, who died in a fire), and George Dibrell Dennis, Jr.
George, like his father, was a farmer.  He farmed the area around the current location of Dennis Road and Farmers Branch Lane in Farmers Branch, Texas.
Effie died on Sept 2, 1954 at the age of 61 and George died at the age of 91 on Sept 1, 1979.  They were interred at the Keenan Cemetery at Farmers Branch, Dallas County, Texas.
