PVT. WILLIAM F. DODSON, son of E. O. and Okie Dodson, 406 S. Fitzhugh, Dallas.  Entered the service May 1918. Sent to Camp Travis for training, later transferred to Camp Bowie. Assigned to 133rd Machine Gun Company, 36th Division. Overseas July, 1918. Participated in Meuse-Argonne. Discharged following the signing of the armistice.

William Dodson served as Farmers Branch's first mayor from 1946 to 1948.  William Dodson Parkway in Farmers Branch, Texas is named in his honor.  The Dodson House can be toured at the Farmers Branch Historical Park, Farmers Branch, Texas

 

Mayor Will Retire At Farmers Branch

Farmers Branch Mayor W. F. (Bill) Dodson, drafted as a candidate after the town was incorporated in Februrary, 1946, will not seek a second term.
Dodson, an independent oil operator, made this announcement Wednesday when he said the North Dallas County town would vote on April 6 on a mayor and five town councilmen. Present councilmen are H. O. Good, Thomas Reader, Lawson Lewis, Glenn Templin and Raymond Milloway. None has announced for re-election.

OBITUARY

Oilman Dies In Hospital

William F. Dodson, 54, a Dallas oilman and a resident of Farmers Branch, died in a hospital Friday.
Dodson served as the first mayor of Farmers Branch when it was incorporated.  He was a native of Malakoff, Henderson County, and served overseas with t he Thirty-sixth Division in the First World War. He came to Dallas to make his home after his discharge from the army and was engaged in various business activities before entering the oil business. His offices were in the First National Bank Building.
He moved to Farmers Branch in 1937 and was a member of the James A. Smith Masonic Lodge.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Farmers Branch Baptist Church, the Rev. G. B. Bailey officiating. Entombment will be at Hillcrest Mausoleum.
Dodson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maude Dodson of Farmers Branch; a son, William Smith Dodson, Dallas; his mother, Mrs. Katie Dodson of Malakoff; eight brothers, C. O. Dodson, Malakoff, F. E. Dodson, Gladewater, M. A. Dodson, San Angelo; J. B. Dodson, Fort Worth; Dewey  Dodson, Malakoff; Lark Dodson, Dallas; Jack  Dodson, San Angelo, and Joe Dodson, who lives in Alabama, and two sisters, Mrs. John Reeves of Mansfield and Mrs. Ora Kinsey, Athens.
