Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Restland Cemetery in
Dallas. Mr. Dooley went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 30,
2008, at his home in Dorchester at the age of 86.
Homer was born Aug. 17, 1921 in Dallas to the late Harry and Viola
(Baker) Dooley. The northern portion of what is now Midway Road was
then called Dooley Road after his family who originally farmed the
area. There is still a portion of that road that goes by the Dooley
name and ends at the Addison airport. Mr. Dooley was the first city
councilman and an early mayor of Addison and was in office when the
first stoplight was erected.
Homer farmed in the Addison area for 32 years before moving to
Dorchester 40 years ago where he continued to farm and ranch until
recently. Homer and Earline Smith were married on July 25, 1942 in
Dallas and had just celebrated their 66th anniversary. A lifetime of
dedicated church service began when he was ordained deacon in the
Farmer's Branch Baptist Church at the age of 26, the youngest ever
in that church. As a faithful deacon at First Baptist Church of
Dorchester, with the exception of serious illness, Homer rarely
missed church.
He is survived by his wife Earline of Dorchester; sons, Charles
Robert Dooley and wife Suzette of Eagle River, Alaska, Homer H.
(Buddy) Dooley Jr. and wife Katy of Eagle Mountain Lake, and Randall
Glen Dooley and wife Margo of Allen; granddaughters, Christine,
Melissa, Marjorie, Michelle, Crystal, Carrie, Sara, and Tiffany;
grandson, Romney; and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by his parents, one son, Barry Wayne Dooley, and one sister,
Mary Helen Williams.
The Dooley children will be eternally grateful for the legacy and
example their father has given them through his commitment to his
family and his faith.
The family will receive friends from 5 -7 p.m. Friday at Waldo
Funeral Home. The register book can be signed online at
waldofuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to
the First Baptist Church of Dorchester Building Fund at 11831 FM
902, Dorchester, TX 75459.
