peacefully in Lewisville, Texas, on October 25, 2024. Born to Reuben
Otis Freeman and Elzie Omega Freeman on September 9, 1949, Darlene lived
a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication.
A brilliant scholar, Darlene graduated as valedictorian from R. L.
Turner High School. She majored in Physics at the University of Texas at
Austin and later pursued her master's degree from Southern Methodist
University. Her intelligence and wit were matched by her humor and
dedication, qualities that endeared her to all who knew her. As a member
of Phi Beta Kappa, she exemplified a commitment to academic excellence
and lifelong learning. With her Master's Degree in Computer Programming,
Darlene went on to work with some of the world's most renowned
companies, including Dell and Texas Instruments.
Darlene's creativity shone through in her love for jewelry-making. She
found joy in crafting beautiful pieces, each a reflection of her
artistic spirit. Alongside her love for jewelry, she was also passionate
about genealogy, dedicating time to tracing her family's ancestry—a
project that will serve as a guide for future generations. Politically
minded and always ready for a spirited discussion, Darlene enjoyed
engaging with friends on current events. Her keen insights and
thoughtful perspectives made her a valued conversationalist. Even in her
final days, Darlene had a unique ability to brighten any room. She loved
to banter with her hospice care team, always ready with a joke to keep
the atmosphere light and positive.
Above all, Darlene's best friend and
confidant was her brother, Otis Eugene Freeman. Their bond was
unbreakable, and he will miss her deeply, as will all who had the
privilege of knowing her.
