Allen American - May 27, 2014 |
In February of 2008 dad was diagnosed with kidney cancer. His kidney was
removed and the cancer did not return! In 2010 he retired from UPS where he
worked mostly nights for 29 years. This allowed him much needed and well
deserved time with his wife, 3 children, and 4 grandchildren.
On April 22,2012 he went to work in the yard ( his pride and joy). He had
bought a tree to plant in the yard for his grandchildren so as they grew
they would be able to watch it grow. He called it his "Tree of Life". He
spent hours digging a hole that ultimatley saved his life...
After digging the hole dad came in to rest. He had a small seizure and by
the time they could get him to the hospital he had suffered a grand mal
seizure. Hours later it was determined he had two masses on his brain and he
was care-flighted to another hospital. It was there that they determined one
was benign and one was a grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme (brain cancer).
They successfuly removed the tumor and by the grace of God dads most severe
symptom is fatigue. After 4 days in recovery dad was able to return home .
This is where the fight began.
Almost a year, brain surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy later, dad is
still fighting and doing great. We are so truly blessed in the numerous
miracles God has provided to our family. Had he not dug the hole for his
"tree of life" he might not be here with us today. He had no signs or
symptoms and by the grace of God the physical exertion of digging the hole
caused the swelling that triggered the seizure that saved his life. The
journey has affected us in ways words can not describe but we are all
thankful that we have been blessed with more time. No matter good days or
bad dad is here with us and we are all fighting for this disease to be
released from his body.
My mom and dad have always done everything for anyone. They have given each
of us a life full of joy and happiness and its my turn to give back. Dad is
currently undergoing two different chemotherapies along with 15 other daily
medications and seeing numerous different doctors. I can not even begin to
imagine or understand the amount of money that has been used to cover all of
the medical expenses that are still piling up.
I just cant fathom going through what my parents are and on top of it having
to stress or worry about paying for the endless treatments dad is taking to
kick cancers butt.
I want to give them something i never could. I want to raise enough money to
cover his chemotherapy for the next year to take a little less stress
away. However, I cant do it on my own.
All money donated will go directly to dad and mom to help cover rising
medical costs. Every PENNY matters. If you are not in a financial situation
to where you can donate please lift them in prayer! Last year we raised
money for the Head For the Cure foundation for cancer research. This year I
would like to rasie money to give dad anything and everything he needs to
help him fight the battle of his life.
