OBITUARY

LONGVIEW John Stephen Glasscock Sr., 71, died Monday, July 1, 2013 in Longview, Texas, following a lengthy illness. Steve, as he was known by his friends and family, was born June 21, 1942, in Manhattan Naval Hospital in New York City, to parents John C. "Buck" and Betty Jean Glasscock. After the war, the family returned to their home in Paris, Texas, where Steve and his brother, Tommy, were raised. He attended Paris High School, graduating in 1961. Steve received his B.S. from North Texas State in 1971, and his Master's of Education in 1978, also from North Texas State. Steve pursued a lifelong career in public school education and administration. He taught science at Vivian Field Junior High School in Farmer's Branch, Texas, and then at Grapevine High School. He retired from San Angelo Central High School in 1999 as Vice Principal. An avid fisherman, Steve loved the mountains of Colorado and the lakes of Texas. He maintained homes in both Pagosa Springs, Colo. and in Longview. He was preceded in death by his father, Buck and his brother, Tommy. He is survived by his mother, Betty Jean of Longview; his daughter, Amanda Hight of Longview; his son, John Glasscock of Friendswood, Texas; and his three granddaughters, Greta, Daria, and Lillian Glasscock, also of Friendswood.
