OBITUARY GRAVELY
WARREN LEWIS who died on December 14, 1999, was born in Farmers Branch, TX on
November 11, 1910 to Alvin Will Gravely and Maggie Mae Taliaferro Gravely. After
graduating from North Dallas High School, he earned a degree in business from
Southern Methodist University in 1930 where he lettered in varsity baseball and
was a member of of Pi Kappa Alpha. In 1975 he retired as Senior Vice President
of Home Insurance company after 40 years of service. During his career, Mr.
Gravely worked in San Antonio, Richmond, VA, New York city and Hawaii. He served
as Regional vice President of the Dallas office as comptroller in New York city
and as President of the Home Insurance company of Hawaii. After his retirement,
he and his wife returned to Dallas where they had raised their family. Mr.
Gravely was a member of the Lakewood country club, an officer of the Dallas
Insurance club, a member of the University Park United Methodist church and a
coach of YMCA youth teams and summer baseball teams. He was preceded in death by
his wife of 54 years, Carita Williamson
Gravely. He is survived by his daughter, Martha Gravely carter and her
husband William Lee Carter, III and his son, Warren L. Gravely, Jr. and his wife
Prissy Davis Gravely. His grandchildren are: Carita carter Youngblood and
her husband Phillip Toy Youngblood, William Grant carter, Gravely, Ann Carter,
Pyeatt Gravely Taylor and her husband Bryan Mitchell Taylor, Carita Elizabeth
Gravely and Warren L. Gravely, III. His great grandson is Harris Toy Youngblood.
Pop was especially loved by his grandchildren and their friends for his
enthusiastic attendance at their many activities. H will be remembered by all
who knew him for his cheerful smile and outgoing personality. A graveside
service will be held on Thursday, December 16, 1999 at 3 P.M.
Webb Chapel Cemetery,
located on Webb chapel Rd. north of LBJ. A Memorial Service will be held on
Friday, December 24, 1999 at 10:00 A.M. at University Park United Methodist
church. Dr. Thomas Q. Robbins officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may
be made to the SMU Mustang club, University Park United Methodist Church or a
charity of your choice.
