OBITUARY

Glenna Gardiner Grimmer passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at the age of 99. She was born on September 30, 1924 in Port Arthur, Texas to Ella Rebecca Hoot and Harry E. Gardiner. She attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1947 with a B.A. in English, and was a proud Longhorn. She worked for Macmillan Publishers in Dallas as a junior editor, then Methodist Hospital as a Communications Manager.

Glenna owned The Bird Nest gallery where she spent many years working on her art and community projects. Her love of writing was expressed throughout her life. She wrote columns for local newspapers, several children’s books, short stories, newsletters for many organizations and always had a poem-in-progress in her head. She was a co-founder of The Civic League of Farmers Branch, active in community service for over 50 years, including terms as President of The Historical Park. The Historical Park was one of her many ideas and she was instrumental in preserving the structures, designing the park and fundraising in order create a place to celebrate the history of the area and early Texas. Glenna was a lifelong member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church where she and George served on the Vestry and many building campaigns.

Glenna was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years George Gordon Grimmer, grandson George Grimmer III, brother Harry E. Gardiner and sister-in-law Joy. She is survived by her son George Grimmer Jr. and daughter-in-law Susan Fournier Grimmer, daughter Rebecca Grimmer and son-in-law David Bee, and grandchildren Geoffrey, Allison (Bryan, Mason and Landon) and Jason (Gavin and Grayson).

Funeral services for Glenna will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 2583 Valwood Parkway, Farmers Branch, TX 75234.
