July 22, 1938 - March 12, 2016
Services for John Mitchell Henson, 77, of Wills Point, TX are scheduled
for Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at Eubank Funeral Chapel in Canton, TX
officiated by Pastor Dick Boyd. Interment will be in Haven of Memories
Memorial Park in Canton.
John M. Henson went to be with the Lord on March 12, 2016, after a long
battle with cancer. Johnny was born July 22, 1938, in McKinney, Texas to
John Henry and Dorothy Henson. He was raised in Farmers Branch and was
of the Baptist faith. Johnny attended Carrollton High School. After high
school, he worked at a filling station with his brother. In 1959, while
working for Walgreen's Warehouse he met Joyce Ann King, and they married
February 6, 1960. Together they worked at Fox and Jacobs and raised two
sons. Johnny was also a member of the Jaycees. In the 1970's, they built
a home in Wills Point near Lake Tawakoni where they owned and operated
Duck Cove Bait and Grocery for more than 20 years. During that time
Johnny raised and raced greyhounds and quarter horses. Johnny had a good
personality, could be rough at times and was never shy about his
feelings. He had a big heart and was always willing to help others. He
enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching NASCAR and football. He enjoyed going
to the casino and cutting a rug now and then. After retirement, Johnny
was able to travel in his motor home to attend NASCAR races and a Dallas
Cowboys football game. He raised chickens, sold eggs, grew a vegetable
garden and worked around his farm.
He is survived by his Wife, Joyce Ann Henson of Wills Point; Son and
daughter-in-law, Britt and Wendy Henson of Willingston, North Dakota;
six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two sisters: Betty Daft of
Tyler, TX and Carol Means of Plano, TX; and other family and friends.
John is preceded in death by his Parents, Son, Joe D. Henson and
Brother, Leonard Henson.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 15, 2016, from 6:00-8:00
p.m. at Eubank Funeral Home. |
