OBITUARY

Patsy Delora (Roach) Hicks
January 1, 1936 ~ October 9, 2022 (age 86)

Graveside services for Patsy Delora Hicks, 86, of Huntsville (formerly of Pittsburg) will be 12:00 noon, Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Matinburg Cemetery in Camp County with Bro. Kyle Smith officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home. Patsy passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022, in Huntsville.

Patsy was born to Nell (Hurley) Roach and Morris Steven Roach a few minutes after midnight on Jan 1, 1936, in Lone Oak, Texas, joining her older brother George, as the fourth member of the family.

Following the course of the Texas Education Systems, through Carrolton and Masonic House in Ft. Worth, Pat and family came to Pittsburg in 1949 where her father, Morris (Fannie) Roach became athletic director and head football coach of the Pittsburg Independent School District. In 1953 the family moved to Farmers Branch where they continued in the Texas Education System.

In 1954, Pat married her beau from Pittsburg, Kenneth Hicks, and they set out to Austin to continue his education at the University of Texas Engineering School.

In the journey that followed, Pat managed to obtain her own Bachelors in Education degree from LSU in 1964, raise 4 children, Thea Lynn, Angela Kay, Morris Kenneth and Matthew Porter, while living in Venezuela, California, New Orleans, London, Bahrain and Holland. In addition to making new friends, Pat was able to pursue new activities such as searching for antiques in England and Europe, teaching American customs to Arabic students in Bahrain, learning about Hindeloopen in Holland, and bridge and golf in Venezuela.

Back home in Texas in 1980, with all the children gone, or soon to be gone, Pat became interested in Real Estate and became a licensed sales agent. Operating in the northeast Houston area, Pat became a highly respected and well-known agent in the area, and her honesty and candidness became unquestioned.

In 2001, Pat and her husband retired to Waterwood on Lake Livingston, where they purchased a waterfront home and began to enjoy frequent visits from children and grandchildren, watersports in the lake, and a backyard swimming pool. Pat became active in the local community, including Ladies Golf Group and Waterwood Womans League.

Pat will be greatly missed by her husband, 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren as well as friends and neighbors in Waterwood.
