OBITUARY
George
C. Roach
George C. Roach passed away Sunday, July 5, 2009, at his
home. He was born on January 5, 1925, in Sulphur Springs, TX, to
Morris
and Nell Hurley Roach. He graduated from Carrollton High School, served
3 years 6 months in the U.S Navy, then received a football scholarship
from East Texas State College where he completed undergraduate and
graduate degrees.
He taught mathematics and coached football and track at Garland, Odessa
and Permian high schools and was head track coach at Odessa Jr. College.
George was inducted into the Garland Sports Hall of Fame in 2003. He
loved the game of golf and won many tournaments in the Left-Handed
Golfers Association at state, national, and international levels.
George married Peggy Keneipp Eden on June 19, 1973. He retired from R. L.
Turner High School where he was Assistant Principal, then taught math at
Liberty Christian High School in Denton until 1995.
He was a member of St. David of Wales Church, where he served as Lay
Reader and Jr. Warden on the vestry. Memorial services will be held
there on Friday, July 10, 2009, at 11:30 a.m.
He is survived by his wife; son, Steve Roach and wife Mary Jane of
Temple; step-son, Bill Eden of Dallas; step-daughter, Sharon Eden-Savage
and husband Patrick of Fort Worth; sister,
Patsy Hicks and husband
Kenneth of Waterwood, TX. He is preceded in death by his son Brent
Roach.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. David of Wales
or Ann’s Haven Hospice.
