OBITUARY
Luther Liles Dies Suddenly
Luther C. Liles, old and highly respected citizen of this place died
suddenly Tuesday morning of this week at his home after a few hours of severe
sickness. Mr. Liles had not been in good health for some time but had been at
his regular employment at the ice house right along until Monday afternoon when
he was taken sick and the severity of his condition became manifest. Kidney
troubles were the cause of death.
Luther C. Liles was born in Glasco, KY in 1856 and grew to manhood in that
state. In 1875 on December 8th, he and Miss Megeney Fulks were united in
marriage. They came to Texas in 1891 and lived in Farmers Branch about ten years
and for some time in Denton county. For many years he has been a resident of
Carrollton. He had a likable disposition and made many friends. and they were
certainly shocked at his sudden demise.
Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Liles and three of them and the mother
are yet living; they are: Walter F., Roy, and Willie, all residents of this
place. Eddie the eldest died in 1892, A brother Charlie Liles of Dallas,
and two sisters: Mrs. Lizzie Butler of Putnam, and Mrs. Alice Beckham of Bowling
Green, Ky, survive.
Mr. Liles was a member of the Union Baptist church of this place and the funeral
services were held in the M. E. church of this place conducted by former pastor
Rev. Earl W. Anderson, now of Dallas. Rev. D. A. Ross read the scripture lesson
and Rev. S. E. Wilkin gave the prayer. Miss Harris of Richardson sang "Abide
With Me;" a song much loved by the deceased.
A large concourse of friends gathered to pay their last respects to the departed
and among the number were Sheriff H. A. Hood and some nineteen gentlemen
connected with the sheriff's office in Dallas county who being business
associates of the son, Walter F. Liles, who is an employee of the sheriff's
department.

many kind and thoughtful deeds to us in these sad hours,, the death of our loved
one, And also for the floral offerings. All these acts of love help to lessen
the grief in our hearts.
