Dolores Ford Lyles

Dolores Ford Lyles, 66, died April 20 in Gilmer.

Mrs. Lyles was born July 21, 1922, the youngest daughter of 10 children to Ella Nevada Smith Ford and Howard M. Ford of Farmers Branch. She was a descendant of Isaac Webb, one of the founding fathers of Farmers Branch.

Mrs. Lyles maternal grandparents had come to Texas in a covered wagon from Jackson, Miss. in 1842. She was a descendant of Isaac Webb on her father's side of the family.  The Webb family settled in Texas when it was still a republic and founded the Webb Chapel Methodist Church, which originally met in the family's home.  The family once owned about 200 acres of what is now Farmers Branch.

Mrs. Lyles was a member of Webb Chapel Methodist Church and one of only two direct Webb descendants that still held membership there.

Many areas of Dallas, such as Cochran Hill, Bachman Lake, Lemmon Avenue, Ford Road and Webb Chapel were named for members of Mrs. Lyles family.

Mrs. Lyles was a cheerleader and voted Most Popular at Carrollton High School  She married James Lyles March 17, 1944.

Mrs. Lyles retired from Texas Instruments in 1979 and moved to Lake O'The Pines.

Survivors include her husband, James; a son, George Lyles of Dallas; a daughter, Donella Lyles Faulkner of Flower Mound; four sisters, Janice Kirby of Dallas, Lois Thurlow and Dorothy Good, both of San Antonio and Nell Winder of Hobbs, N.M.; two brothers, Bill Ford of San Antonio and Howard "Pete" Ford of Dallas.

Funeral services were held April 22 at Webb Chapel Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Shafer officiating. Interment was at Webb Chapel Cemetery.
