OBITUARY 100-year-old
citizen "Nappy" Malone dies
CARROLLTON - Funeral services for Earl (Nappy) Malone, whose 100th
birthday was celebrated Nov. 4 with the City of Carrollton proclaiming the day
in his honor, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in St. John's Baptist Church. Burial
will be in Furneaux Cemetery
here.
He died Thursday in a Dallas hospital.
Malone, of 1005 N. Main, was born in Troup, Smith County, and was brought to
Carrollton when he was 8. An orphan, he was raised by the W. Dell and C.
A. Smith families along with their children.
Nappy, as Malone was called, was well-known to most longtime Carrollton
residents. On his 100th birthday,
Mayor Ward Steenson presented him with a certificate and a copy of the
proclamation naming the day in his honor.
He is survived by one son, Earl K. Malone, and one sister, Mrs. Ida Coleman.
