100-year-old citizen "Nappy" Malone dies

CARROLLTON - Funeral services for Earl (Nappy) Malone, whose 100th birthday was celebrated Nov. 4 with the City of Carrollton proclaiming the day in his honor, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in St. John's Baptist Church. Burial will be in Furneaux Cemetery here.
He died Thursday in a Dallas hospital.
Malone, of 1005 N. Main, was born in Troup, Smith County, and was brought to Carrollton when he was 8.  An orphan, he was raised by the W. Dell and C. A. Smith families along with their children.
Nappy, as Malone was called, was well-known to most longtime Carrollton residents.  On his 100th birthday, Mayor Ward Steenson presented him with a  certificate and a copy of the proclamation naming the day in his honor.
He is survived by one son, Earl K. Malone, and one sister, Mrs. Ida Coleman.
