OBITUARY Wallace Maybery, Sr.
Died: 02-04-2005
Wallace Maybery, Sr., 81, of Spring City, died Friday, Feb. 4, in Harriman. He
was born in Farmers Branch, TX (Dallas County), the son of the late W. Patrick
Maybery and Anna Dale Kirkpatrick Maybery Hegg.
He was educated in the Dallas County public school system, attending Farmers
Branch Elementary School and graduating from DeWitt Perry High School,
Carrollton, TX. in 1940. He attended Texas Christian University, Fort Worth. He
was employed by the Mosher Steel Co., Dallas, until enlisting in the U.S. Army
Air Corps in November 1942, serving until his discharge in 1946. He was employed
with American National Life Insurance Company of Galveston, as a salesman and
later as assistant sales manager. He then began employment with Southwestern
Bell telephone Company as a directory representative. He retired in 1981.
In October of 1962 he married Lucile Cawood Dines. They moved to Spring City in
March of 1989. She preceded him in death on May 13, 2002.
He was initiated, passed and raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on
April 11, 1953, in Arlington Heights Lodge No. 1184 A.F.&A.M. of Fort Worth, TX.
He later moved to the suburbs of Fort Worth and affiliated with the Azle Lodge
No. 601 A.F.&A.M., serving as Worshipful Master during 1983-1984. He transferred
his membership to Rhea Springs Lodge No. 310 of Spring City on Sept. 19, 1989.
Companion Maybery was exalted in Rhea Springs Chapter No. 83 R.A.M. of Spring
City on Feb. 10, 1990. He served as Excellent High Priest during 1994-95. He
received the Order of High Priesthood on March 21, 1994. Companion Maybery
received the Royal Masters and Select Masters Degrees on May 4, 1990, in
Drummond Council No. 86 of Crossville. He served as Illustrious Master during
1995. He received the Super Excellent Master Degree on October 28, 1994 and the
Order of the Silver Trowel on March 20, 1995. Sir Knight Maybery was created a
Knight Templar in Plateau Commandery No. 38 of Crossville on June 23, 1990 and
served as Commander during 1994-95. He received Knight Crusader of the Cross in
1994. He is a member of Tennessee Priory No. 15, Knights of the York Cross of
Honor, holder of the Knights Templar Cross of Honor, and member of the Royal
Order of Scotland, Knight Masons, Knight Commander Asylum No. 2 of Chattanooga.
Allied Masonic Degrees, Cherokee York Rite Sovereign College No. 152 where he
presently served as Governor, Tenn. Lodge of Research, Tenn. Forrest Tall Cedars
of Lebanon, St. Gregory's Conclave Red Cross of Constantine, received the
Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Degrees in the Valley of Fort Worth, later
transferring his membership to the Knoxville Scottish Kite Bodies where he was
honored with the rank and decoration of Knight Commander Court of Honor, and
became a member of Moslah Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Fort Worth, later transferring
his membership to Alhambra Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Chattanooga. In the Grand
Council, Companion Maybery served as the Grand Representative of the Grand
Council of Oklahoma near the Grand Council of Tennessee. In the Grand Commandery,
Sir Knight Maybery served as Grand Senior Warden during 1996 and was appointed
Chairman of the Knights Templar Eye Foundation Committee in 1997. In the Grand
Council, Companion Maybery was elected Grand Captain of the Guard on March
23,1998, and advanced each year, being selected Most Illustrious Grand Master of
Cryptic Masons of Tenn. on March 26, 2001. In 2003, Maybery was elected to
membership in National Sojourners, Inc. and enjoyed fellowship with fellow
Master Masons veterans and their ladies.
He is survived by his sons, Wallace Maybery, Jr. and Phillip Maybery of Virginia
Beach, VA., and Randy Maybery of Norfolk, VA.; his daughter, Sharon Dines of
Spring City; Four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and his special friend
Dorothy Erstad, Spring City.
Funeral and Masonic services were Sunday, Feb. 6 at Spring City United Methodist
Church with Reverend Ron Goodman officiating. Burial was in Spring City Cemetery
with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Knight's
Templar Eye Foundation, Cryptic Masons Medical Research Foundation or Spring
City Methodist Church. Vaughn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
