OBITUARY
Larry
Dillard Morriss
February 14, 1944 - March 6, 2022
Larry Dillard Morriss was born on Valentine's Day, 1944, in Lewisville,
TX, and attended Carrollton HS.
As a relative of the Flower Mound-founding Morriss family, Larry is a
life-long resident of North Texas.
In his early adult life, Larry was a Golden Gloves boxer and fought
against the likes of Burton Gilliam, who became a well-known actor in
westerns, including Blazing Saddles. Larry was an award-winning Vice
President of the Farmers Branch JayCees in the 70s. Until the mid-1980s,
when he was forced to retire due to a career-ending eyesight disability,
Larry worked as a Master electrician. In 2021, he received his 45-year
pin as a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW)
Local Union #20. He was happiest when he was either fishing, hunting,
cheering on the Texas Rangers or watching daily marathons of Gunsmoke on
television. His joy was even greater when he could share these
experiences with his kids & grandkids. Larry was the authority on the
family history and could be counted on for a fiercely honest quip that
was timed just right to make the listeners laugh out loud.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Lynn Morriss & Charlie Faye
Dillard, and his siblings, Emory Morriss, Rhonda Stetler, Judy Swiger,
and Gloria Newkirk.
Larry is survived by his wife of 33 years, Eleanor Morriss, his son &
daughter-in-law, Rick & Tammy Morriss of Weston ID, daughter &
son-in-law Debra & Adam Hammett of Double Oak TX, stepchildren Kim
Luzier, Rick Schickling, Jerry Schickling, all of Clearfield PA, and
Kathy Gomez of Little Elm TX.
Larry's pride & joy are his 11 grandkids and soon-to-be 18
great-grandchildren.
Larry will be laid to rest alongside his mother's family at Chinn's
Chapel Cemetery, Copper Canyon TX. |
