OBITUARY FORMER RESIDENT BURIED HERE
The funeral of Mr. J. B. McWhorter was held Sunday, Jan. 20, at the Union
Baptist church of Carrollton, a minister from his home church coming with the
funeral party and conducting the services. Interment was in the
Union cemetery
northeast of town.
James B. McWhorter was 84 years old and death came suddenly. He lived near
Roanoke, in Denton county, on his farm, his daughter, Mrs. Rose, living with him
and caring for hem. He had gone to breakfast Saturday morning last and was
sitting at the table. The family were not in the room at the time and when one
of the girls went to the room he was lying on the floor as tho very suddenly
stricken. In 1873 he and Miss Leticia Myers were married and to them was born
ten children, three have died and seven are now living. About ten years ago the
wife died while they were residents of this place and was buried in the Union
cemetery here, hence the desire of Mr. McWhorter to be b rot here and placed at
the side of his wife. While the family resided here they lived in the north part
of town where Frank Williams now resides.
The children are William McWhorter of Kansas City; Mrs. Cale Farrington,
Randlett, Okla.; Mrs. Effie Rose, at home; Roy Charley, and James of Roanoke;
Mrs. F. A. James of Ardmore, Oklahoma.
