OBITUARY
 

SLAUGHTER, WILLIAM JAMES "Bill", formerly of Dallas, Texas, 72 years old, after a full and wonderful life, passed away of lung disease on May 15, 2005. He is survived by his devoted wife Joan of 49+ years; son Steve Slaughter; daughter and son-in-law Shari and Dave Schuetz; three grandchildren, Katie, Matthew and Michael Schuetz; brother and sister-in-law Edward and Betty Slaughter of Dallas, and two nieces and their families. In addition to his parents, Edward and Frances Slaughter, he was preceded in death by son, Jim. After 29+ years of working for the City of Dallas, he retired as Associate Director of Management Services of the Dallas Public Library. Bill attended Southwestern University and was President of PIKA Fraternity. After obtaining his BBA, he went into the Naval Cadet Program and received his commission in 1955. He earned his navy wings as a jet pilot and was stationed in Oceania VA until 1957. After completing the four years of duty, he returned to Dallas where he lived until July 2004, at which time, he relocated to Pittsburgh, PA to be near his daughter, her husband and grandchildren For the last 17 years, Bill and Joan enjoyed their golden years golfing, riding a motorcycle, traveling and spending time with their grandchildren. Bill enjoyed hunting, camping, woodworking as well as being a mentor for his children in addition to many other young people. He will be greatly missed and a memorial service will be held in late Summer 2005 at University Park United Methodist Church where they were members of the Wedding Ring Sunday School Class for 47 years. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Dallas Public Library, University Park United Methodist Church Foundation, or a charity of your choice. Dallas Memorial Service in August at University Park UMC, 4024 Caruth Blvd., at Preston Road.
