Mrs. J. B. Smith, aged 70 years, a highly respected citizen of Farmers
Branch, died at her home there Saturday evening, Oct. 10, at 4 o'clock following
a sickness of three days. Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 p.m.
Rev's Ramsey and Brannon conducting, in the Baptist church at Farmers Branch,
and interment was made in
Forest Lawn cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was born near Chattanooga, Tenn., Dec 15, 1860, and was at the time
of her death aged 70 years, nine months and twenty five days. Shortly after her
marriage to Mr. Smith, they came to Texas and settled at Wilmer. At that
time Dallas was but a small country village and she has seen it grow from such a
place to its present size and importance. From Wilmer, Mr. and Mrs. Smith
moved to Fannin county and resided there until 1904 when they came back to
Dallas county and settled at Farmers Branch, at which place they had resided
ever since Mr. Smith preceded the wife in death some three years ago.
There are seven children, as follows: Mrs. Minnie Coonrod,
Mrs. Myrtle Coonrod, Mrs. Belle Hudler,
Mrs. Vicey Harrison, Will, Lee and Omar Smith.
Mrs. Smith was ever active in labor for her church and while the new building
was being constructed she was quite active and helped greatly toward its
achievement. Her church work was always whole-heartedly done and she will be
missed from the ranks of its heavy supporters.
The funeral of Mrs. Smith was the first to be held in the new building
constructed last spring and summer.
