Texas. He was born in Dallas, Texas to Billy Jack and Loretta (Fletcher)
Sorrells on January 23, 1957. Randy grew up in Farmers Branch, Texas and
attended Vivian Field Jr. High. He attended high school at R.L. Turner,
and lettered all four years on the Tennis team. He moved to Denton to
attend North Texas State University (now UNT) where he competed on the
Men’s Tennis team. Randy started Metro Roofing and Paint in 1979 which
has since evolved into Metro Roofing and Construction. Randy ran the
family business and managed rental properties. He had a keen eye for
real estate and never lost a game of monopoly. He was married to Nancy
Baertlein Sorrells in Reno, Nevada on June 20, 1992. This June they
would have been married 30 years.
Randy was very proud of his three children. Taylor, 26, graduated from
Tarleton State University with a Master’s degree and is now halfway
through veterinarian school at Iowa State University. The twins followed
in his footsteps and attended the University of North Texas. Brandy, 21,
will graduate in May with a Biology degree and will be applying to
Medical School. Bret, 21, will graduate with a degree in Risk Management
this May as well.
Randy was a car enthusiast and had a large collection of cars. Many of
them traveled over 100 mph on a frequent basis. He enjoyed collecting
coins and going to classic rock concerts. The family called Randy
“MacGyver” because he was able to fix or repair almost anything. Randy
became a cattle farmer later in life and enjoyed living on the property
outside of town. He enjoyed telling stories and spending time with
friends. Randy had a large circle of friends and was a central part of a
local breakfast club.
Randy is survived by his wife, Nancy, daughters; Taylor Sorrells Crane
and her husband Zac, Brandy Sorrells, and son, Bret Sorrells all of
Denton, Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
