Stark Celebrates 84-th Birthday at Home of Son Walter in Carrollton

There was a jolly party of the Stark's at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Stark in Carrollton on Sunday, Dec. 20, when they all gathered to celebrate the birthday of J. F. Stark, father of Walter of this place and Jack Stark of Alpha. Mr. Stark's birthday was on Monday the 21st but as Sunday was the day in which all could be present that day was used  for the event.
Mr. J. F. Stark was born near Memphis, Tenn., Dec. 21st, 1852, and when two years of age came to Texas with his parents, coming to Dallas County, where he has since resided. He has  told us of seeing ox teams pulling their loads on the streets of the  village called Dallas, and he has lived to see that village grow to a city in excess of 350,000 population. He has done his portion to help make this country what it is today and can  look back on a long life of usefulness as he has always been an active figure in the civic movements and prlitical movements which have had  their part in the upbuilding of the community and the city.
Mr. Stark and Miss Jennie Elkins were married in 1880 and the two sons named above were the product of this union. Both are prosperous and influential citizens in their respective communities.
Mr. Stark looks hale and hearthy and gets about with an activity which bespeaks many more years of activity in this his home community. We understand that he was a little surprised when he found all of the family athered on this Sunday to wish him health and happiness for many more years and  that new Stetson which he wears since Sunday is one of the tributes given to him.

Death Claims Mrs. J. F. Stark
Death came Tuesday morning, Oct 6, at 10 o'clock to relieve the sufferings of one of our loved neighbors, Mrs. Jennie Elkins Stark, at her home at Alpha.  She was aged 71 years, 9 months, and 12 days at the time of her death.
Jennie Elkins was born in Tennessee, December 24, 1859.  She came to Texas 59 years ago and has resided here ever since. On Nov. 17, 1879, she and J. F. Stark were united in the holy bounds of matrimony and they have lived their life here among us for all these years and lived a God-fearing life and reared the two sons born to them.  These sons, Walter of Carrollton, and Jack of Alpha, together with the husband, and one sister, Mrs. Will Moore of Dallas, mourn the going of this good soul.  There are in the family four granddaughters and three grandsons. in early life she was converted and joined the Presbyterian church, later she joined the Methodist church and remained there thruout the remainder of her life.  She was a faithful, loyal and honored member of this church and they shall mourn her as a sister gone to her reward.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church at Addison Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock.  Rev. W. N. Vernon, her pastor, in charge of the services.  Music was supplied by the Richardson quartet. Interment was made in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
