THE LIONS TALE

Ag Student Accepts 'Goat Roper' Tag
by Diane Davis

With students so often categorized into social groups, senior Bryan Stuart identifies with the term "goat roaper."
Bryan said the term bothers some people, but it does not irritate him. "I'm what I am," he shrugged.
"There are social groups (at Turner), but you can pretty well mix with them," Bryan observed.
"In some schools they set people aside, and it can really cause trouble."
When asked why he was labeled, Bryan said, "Because I'm in Ag, they call me a goat roaper."

Stuart Didn't Identify
The easy-ging senior said he used to not identify with the term because he always thought of someone who ropes goats and "I never did that," he said grinning
Bryan said he had friends in other groups at school.  Mixing with other social groups is good, he said. "It helps things go round. People ought to mix with others and not have their own groups."
In reference to his studies in agriculture, Bryan said that RLT had not really encouraged him but rather he was "sort of doing it on my own."

"I Have the Will"
I guess I just have a will to learn agriculture," he said.
Bryan plans to move back to West Texas within the next year and form a partnership with some of his relatives raising cattle and hogs. He also hopes to buy some cotton land and farm.
"I'd like to have gone to a small school I guess it was the way I was raised. I like to be clos to people, and you can't really be close to people and friends here. There are so many."

Stuart Will Attend Tariton or Sul Ross
In the meantime, Bryan will go to either Tarlton or Sul Ross Universities because of  'the schools' emphasis on rodeo and agriculture.
He feels his years in high school were "pretty good." They gave him a "lot of experience (in agriculture). You meet people from all over Texas, and they can help you later.
