OBITUARY
In
Memory of
Doris Lee Tipps
November 11, 1922 - December 28, 2015
Doris Lee Tipps passed away Dec.28, 2015 at age 93 after a long and well-lived
life. She was born Nov. 11, 1922 in Denton Texas the sixth of seven children
born to Herbert B. and Sallie Wilson. Doris received her B.A. in journalism from
Texas Women's College in Denton. At age l8 she eloped to Oklahoma to marry the
love of her life Vinson Tipps, the beginning of a wonderful 65-year marriage.
Doris and Vinson moved to Carrollton in l946 where they raised their four
children.
Doris taught journalism and was a counselor in the vocational education
department at R. L. Turner High School until her retirement.
Doris loved family, great food, and travel. She and Vinson were adventurous
travelers going around the world visiting Russian, China, Australia, Europe and
beyond. She loved her large, gregarious family celebrating family with her
memorable and fabulous dinners.
Doris's family originally migrated to Texas from Tennessee in 1831. The family
was among the original pioneers in Wise County settling in Decatur, Texas
Doris is survived by her children, Glenda Jordan, Thomas Tipps, Sally Fink and
Steven Tipps…and 7 grandchildren: Sean Tipps, Travis Tipps, Austin, Tipps,
Carrie Tipps, Candice Stephens, Sarah Ignacio and Daniel Fink…and twelve great
grandchildren…and by her sister, Elisabeth Cogdill. Doris was pre-deceased by
her husband, Vinson who passed away in
2005.
Doris was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Farmers Branch, Texas. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church. |
