OBITUARY

Dr. Michael Gregg Tucker
June 9, 1957 - March 4, 2024

Longtime Southern Baptist pastor and denominational servant, Dr. Michael "Mike" Gregg Tucker, aged 66, went home to be with his Lord on March 4, 2024, following a lengthy illness.

He is survived by his wife Dr. Cheryl A. Tucker; sons David and Michael Tucker; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Tucker; mother, Frances Tucker; brother, Steven "Pete" Tucker; and sisters-in-law Catherine Chambers and Robbi Tucker. Mike was predeceased by his father, Larry Wayne Tucker, Sr. and his brothers Scott Tucker and L. Wayne Tucker, Jr.

Mike lived his life embodying his life verse, "He who is noble plans noble things, and on noble things he stands" Isaiah 32:8. He invested twenty years of his life in noble service to our Lord as a minister, including pastorates at Heritage Hills Baptist Church in Santa Claus, Indiana; First Baptist Church Saint Joseph in Saint Joseph, Tennessee; Morningside Baptist Church in Macon, Georgia; Central Baptist Church in Warner Robins, Georgia; and Central Baptist Church in Decatur, Alabama. His pastoral ministry focused on sharing the love of Christ through Biblical teaching and discipleship, global missions, and the ministry of prayer. An important aspect of his ministry was short-term mission trips within the United States, including Alaska, and in the Philippines. In 2002 he joined the staff at Lifeway Christian Resources in Brentwood, Tennessee, to begin a noble venture as a Church Consultant providing leadership support to 300 Texas churches and their pastors.

Before he ever met Cheryl, Mike fell in love with reading and found immense joy in turning the pages of the books in his impressive home library. He was always eager to learn, truly a noble venture, earning three academic degrees during his lifetime including a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Texas at Dallas, a Master of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and a Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California.

Mike was a noble communicator who enjoyed table talk and the lost art of conversation in this texting, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook age. The table talk usually centered around faith and family, world events, politics, history, the Dallas Cowboys, the Texas Rangers, or Baylor University. You name it, he could talk about it - and probably for longer than you wanted him to. He loved his wife, Cheryl, his family, and his friends deeply, enjoying times of fellowship together and telling stories that could make you laugh till you cried. His infectious smile and laugh will be deeply missed by those who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mike’s life on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church Lewisville located at 1251 Valley Ridge Blvd Lewisville, TX 75077. Immediately after the celebration of life service, all guests are invited to a reception where family and friends may greet one another, offer condolences, enjoy table talk, and share laughter in memory of Mike. The committal service will be a private service with only immediate family. Friends and family who wish to give a memorial donation in lieu of flowers may send their gift to First Baptist Church Lewisville’s Lottie Moon Christmas Offering® which supports mission efforts around the world. Donations may be sent to First Baptist Church Lewisville located at 1251 Valley Ridge Blvd Lewisville, TX 75077 and should indicate the donation is in memory of Michael G. Tucker.
