Clayton Welsh,
IIIAugust 3, 1961 – April 5, 2019 Service April 11th, 2019 11:00 am Our beloved brother Hugh Clayton Welsh, III “Clayton” went to rest with his Lord and Savior on Friday April 5th, 2019. Clayton was the eldest child of Hugh Clayton Welsh, Jr and Julia Ann Thompson Welsh and Connie Patton Welsh, and was born at Herman Hospital where his Grandfather, Hugh Clayton Welsh, Sr was Chief of Staff. Clayton was always a tremendous swimmer, very unselfish and even rescued his sister Edina when she nearly drowned as a young child. She says he put her on his shoulders and walked to the shallow end, risking his own drowning. He always had a smile on his face, was kind to everyone and never got upset with anyone. As a child and teenager, Clayton was one of the annual favorites at Camp Longhorn and holds the mile swim record to this day. His record will never be broken, as they now swim parallel to the shore, but formerly swam across Inks Lake in Burnet, TX. His little brother Tim broke his record, but won’t claim it, as it wasn’t across the lake. After graduating from R.L. Turner High School in 1979, he earned a scholarship to swim for LSU, mainly due to his hard work and swimming talent. All through high school, Clayton swam with his high school team as well as his AAU team, training with Olympic Gold Medalists Bruce Hayes and Mike Heath. With a specialty in long distance swimming, by his senior year in college, he received a full scholarship and proudly represented the Tigers in college swim meets across the country. He was widely known for his ability to swim back to back to back long races and building team points for his Tigers. In his forties, he even broke Masters Swimming Records. Upon graduating from LSU with a BS in Business Administration, his servant heart and smile paid off for him as he joined Andrews Restaurants in Dallas and became their all-time youngest and most profitable General Manager. Later, he joined his college teammate and best friend Allen Stiden at Airguard Industries in Dallas, selling filtration systems in the high tech industry. He then moved to Austin to work for Air Sanitation and then Advance Filtration Systems, until his early retirement due to illness. Clayton loved and was loved by his friends, immediate family as well as his extended families of the Robbins Family, the Thompson Family the Patton Family and the Jones Family. He will be dearly missed, but we celebrate his life and look forward to seeing him again. He is preceded in death by his Father, Hugh Clayton Welsh, Jr. and his biological mother Julia Ann Welsh. He is survived by his mom Connie Patton Welsh, sister Edina Welsh Sauer and her husband Patrick Keith Sauer, brother Timothy Halligan Welsh, brother Adrian Patton Welsh and his wife Lisa Welsh, niece Amanda Dyson, nephews Patrick, Timothy Clayton, Hogan and Kemp Sauer, niece Abigail Welsh, nephew Olsen Welsh and niece Jovie Welsh. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 11th, 2019 from 11 A.M. at Vazquez Funeral Home, 1805 Huge Oaks, Houston, TX 77055.
