OBITUARY
 

Marjorie Ledbetter Yelton
January 12, 1916 - June 10, 2011

Exceptional achiever Marjorie Ledbetter Lowry Yelton passed away peacefully with family at her bedside Friday 6-10-11. She was born 1-12-16 to a Carrollton pioneer family Elector and Eugenia Ledbetter, one of nine children, all of whom preceded her in death.

She was former president of the Poetry Society of Texas and life member. She was also president of the Southwest Writers and long time editor and charter member of the Elm Fork Echoes for the Peters Colony Historical Society of Dallas County. She was given an honorary doctor of humane letters by Pakistan's University of Free Asia. Marjorie was an award winning poet and world traveler and was also named International Woman of the Year by the United Poet Laureates in 1972 and long time Braniff employee until her retirement.


Preceded in death by husband Harold Yelton, long time musician for both the Dallas and Richardson symphonies and by two grandchildren Mark Hand and Lisa Hand Liedtke. Survived by daughter Barbara Lowry Bryant, two granddaughters Celia Hand Roman and Teri Hand Chidester and by seven great-grandchildren Joshua Mims, Justin Berry, Cody Berry, Bradley Chidester, Evan Chidester, Tanner Chidester and Emily Carroll and three great-great-grandchildren Jaxson Mims, Ryder Mims and Lyric Chidester.

Family and friends will gather graveside at Perry Cemetery Tuesday 6-14-11 at 11:30. Officiating at the service will be Lewis Palos.

Arrangements under the direction of Rhoton Funeral Home, Carrollton, TX.
