OBITUARY Caillet, Marie
Marta Marie Caillet, 94, died Thursday, May 20, 2010, in Denton. She was
born on September 7, 1915 to Fleury Paul
and Laura Riehn Caillet at the family home
in Dallas County, on their farm bordered by Lovers Lane and Inwood Road. A
descendant of the Reverchon family, French settlers in the La Reunion colony in
west Dallas, she attended school in Highland Park, and was graduated from Texas

Lafayette (now the University of Louisiana Lafayette). On her retirement she
moved to Oak Point, Texas, where she lived for 29 years. While in Lafayette, she
continued her mother's interest in iris gardening, and became interested in the
native irises of Louisiana. She was a charter member of the Society for
Louisiana Irises and served for years as an officer, board member, newsletter
editor, and unofficial historian. A special garden award was created in her
honor by the Society, and her collection of papers and articles has been donated
to the Louisiana iris archives at UL Lafayette. After moving to Oak Point, she
became an active member of the Iris Society of Dallas and the American Iris
Society, receiving numerous awards from those organizations, including the
prestigious AIS Gold Medal in 2005. She was a contributor and co-editor of two
volumes on Louisiana irises, and wrote hundreds of articles for garden magazines
