OBITUARY
WELCH,
SHIRLEY CAILLET, 99, died Friday, March 28, 2003 at Good Samaritan
Village in Denton. She was born in Dallas on July 8, 1903 to Fleury Paul
and Laura Riehn Caillet and was a descendant of the Reverchon family,
French settlers in the La Reunion colony in West Dallas. She attended
Cochran Chapel School (located across Midway Road from the current
Cochran Chapel Methodist Church) and in 1914 began attending Maple Lawn
School, a combination rural elementary and high school at that time. She
graduated from the College of Industrial Ads (now Texas Woman's
University) in Denton in 1925 and taught elementary school in the flying
field at Love Field for-five years. She married
Clyde Wright Welch of
Dallas on June 24. 1930. He died May 4, 1992. In 1930 she became
associated with the Dallas schools and in 1934 became principal of
Walnut Hill Elementary School, where she served until her retirement in
1957. She was instrumental in the naming of F. P. Caillet Elementary
School for her father in 1957. In 1959 she and her husband built a home
on family property on the eastern shore of Lake Dallas (now Lake
Lewisville) near Little Elm, where she lived until August 2000. From
1963 to 1970 she worked as a substitute teacher and acting principal in
the Little Elm schools. She was "Aunt Shirley" to family, friends and
