BILL MARCOM
Sweet William better
    known as Bill
The boy who gives the
    girls a trill
In mathematics and other
    subjects he's the best
I have my hunch he'll
    head the rest.

JAMES MARCOM OBITUARY
James William (Bill) Marcom was born on April 4, 1924 in Farmers Branch, Texas. He graduated from Carrollton High School in 1941.
He attended the University of North Texas for several months, but decided to join the Navy in December 1941, after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Due to several physical and administrative issues, he was not called to active duty until September 1943. During this interval, Bill continued his education at North Texas. Once he reported to active duty, Bill was sent to numerous military schools to learn about aviation and electronics. Eventually, his talents were recognized and he was offered the opportunity to attend the midshipman school to become an officer. After his commission as an Ensign in the US Navy, he was sent to more schools to continue learning aviation and electronics. After this training, he was given several assignments dealing with military aircraft. During this time, he contacted his girlfriend, Marie Weaver, and they were married near Atlantic City, NJ on July 25, 1952. Soon thereafter, Bill was sent to attend the Officer Electronics School in Memphis. His duty stations during his navy career included stops in New Jersey, New York, Iowa, Illinois, Hawaii, Japan, and the Mediterranean Sea.
In 1958, the Navy decided to reduce its officer ranks and Bill was given the opportunity to "transfer his service" and become a captain in the US Army. During his army time, Bill held various staff and command assignments in Arizona, Germany, and New Mexico. He decided to retire from the army in December 1967.
After separating from the military after 26 years of service, Bill returned to Farmers Branch, Texas and took a job at General Dynamics in Fort Worth. After 5 years, Bill retired and started a mowing business with his sons. Eventually the business was turned over to his sons and Bill decided to stop working and enjoy life.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Amanda Marie Marcom; his mother, Rebecca Tims; his father, Balam Marcom; his sons, Marc and Perry Marcom; and, his brothers, Jess, Bud, BC, Roy Lee, and Jay Frank.
Bill is survived by two daughters, Mary Jane Schob (Tom) and Margie Hughes (Wallace); daughter-in-law, Andrea Marcom; grand-children, Amanda Hughes and William Hughes; grand-children (by marriage), Laura Spradley (Daniel), Erin Schob, Bradley Schob (Courtney), and Steven Schob (Katie); great-grand-children (by marriage), Hannah Schob, Claire Spradley, Corinne Schob, Oliver Schob, Andrew Spradley, Joanna Spradley, Jack Escobar, Penny Schob, and Luke Schob.
