OBITUARY

"Jaybird" Noel Killed July 9th In French Drive

Staff-Sgt Ernest E. Noel, son of Mrs. Pearl Waldrop and known here as "Jay-bird" or "Dago" was killed on the 9th of July in action in France, according to a telegram received by Mrs. Waldrop Monday.
The wire read:
The secretary of war desires me to express his deep regret that your son Staff Sergeant Ernest E. Noel was killed in action on nine July in France, Letter follows.

Jaybird was heard from last on the 14th of June and at that time was somewhere in England and said he didn't know how long he would stay there. If he did know, he couldn't say.
Mrs. Waldrop assumes he was killed in either the battle of Caen or Le Haye as these campaigns were being fought on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of July, and he was killed on the 9th.
Ernest Noel was 25. He was the son of Elmer Noel, who died about three years ago and was prominent here in connection with the railroad.
He had been in the service since September 1940 and had been overseas since April of this year.
Ernest lived here all his life except for the years in army service, was graduated from DeWitt Perry high school in 1933??. After that time he worked for Blanton Grain Company.
He was born just north of town in the Katy section house which burned? in 1939 and was 25 on the first of last month.
He had served his year of training under the war-training program and was scheduled to be discharged, when his father, Elmer Noel died on December 5th. He was buried two days later, on the 7th, Pearl-Harbor day, and consequently, Ernest stayed in service.
Mrs. Waldrop has two other sons In service.
Sgt. Frank Edward Noel, 27, of the marines is in Edengton North Carolina. and has been in a  year. His wife, Mrs. Ann Noel, lives in Dallas, Sgt. Noel was promoted from Corporal two weeks ago.
W. T. 2-c James Edwin Noel, 21, has served in the Navy since July '42 and is somewhere in the South Pacific.
James Edwin is Mrs. Waldrop's youngest son. He finished high school here is '42 and has been overseas since January of last year. He was home Christmas for two weeks, the only time he has been back since entering the service. He and Ernest had not met since December of '41.

Sgt E. E. Noel Rites Arranged

Services for Staff Sgt. Ernest Elmer Noel, 28, who was killed July 9, 1944, in Cherbourg, France, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Carrollton Methodist Church. Sergeant Noel had lived in Carrollton all his life.
The Carrollton American Legion Post No. 597 will be in charge of the Military ceremonies. Burial will be in Perry Cemetery in Carrollton.
Sergeant Noel joined the 36th Division in September 1940, and went overseas in May, 1944.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Pearl Noel, Carrollton; two brothers, James Noel Carrollton, and Edward Noel, Chicago, Ill., a nephew and several uncles and aunts.

Memorial Rites Set
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Carrollton Methodist Church, at Carrollton, Dallas County, for three men who have been killed in action. They are: Ernest Noel, Charles Mosley, and J. E. Parsley. The Rev. Felix Kindel, former pastor, will speak.

Waxahachian's Brother Is Dead, Carrollton Texas

Funeral services for Elmer Noel, Carrollton, deputy constable and brother of Frank Noel of Waxahachie, who died early Saturday of a heart attack following the exertion of stopping a fight in a tavern on the Northwest Highway at Carrollton, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Carrollton Christian Church by the Rev. D. H. Bonner. Burial was in Perry Cemetery.
Mr Noel had been a deputy constable at Carrollton ten years and had lived in Carrollton More than twenty-five years. He was a member of the Famers' Branch Odd Fellows Lodge and the Carrollton Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pearl Noel; three sons, Edward James and Ernest Noel, all of Carrollton; his father, Sam Noel, Belcherville, Montague County, four brothers, Frank Noel, Waxahachie; Earl Noel and Clarence Noel, Royce City and Willie Noel, Carrollton; three sisters, Miss Virgie Noel, Belcherville; Mrs. Irene Clawson, Dallas, and Mrs. Hazel Buckley, Belcherville.

MEMORIAL SERVICES HELD FOR PARSLEY, MOSELEY AND NOEL

Memorial services for three young men who have given their lives for their country, Earnest Noel, Charles Moeley, and J. E. Parsley, will be held at the Carrollton Methodist church on Sunday, June 3, at 3:00 P.M.  An appropriate program is being planned, at which time Rev. Felix Kindel, former Methodist pastor here, will bring the principal message.
An invitation is extended to friends and relatives of these young men to attend.
A more detailed announcement of the program will be given next week.
