Noel L. Smith
"Thorough is all he  had to do"

Noel Lester Smith
July 7, 1926 - June 28, 2008

Noel Lester Smith, of Austin, died peacefully in his home on June 28, 2008. Loving family and his wife of sixty years, Mary Lee Smith, surrounded him. He was born to Isaac Russell and Grace Smith on July 7, 1926, in Dallas, Texas.
As a young man, Noel was often prone to pranks and general mischief making, but all that changed  after attending a local church service. At the age of 16, Noel dedicated his life to Christ. A few years later, he joined the U.S. Navy and served his county in World War II. On June 1, 1947, he married the love of his life, Mary Lee Grimm.
Noel and his family moved to Garland, Texas, where he became a member of Miller Road Baptist Church and six years later joined Lavon Drive Baptist Church. During a span of over four decades, Noel served as a church deacon, usher and Sunday school teacher. Four years ago, Noel and Mary Lee moved to Austin Texas, and joined the Maranatha Baptist Church. Gaylord Container Corporation in Dallas, Texas, employed Noel for forty-five years.
Noel is survived by his wife, Mary Lee; his three children, Jeannie Kelley and her husband, Daniel Laufer, of Austin, Texas, Kenneth Smith and wife, Pan, of Linden, Texas and Randy Smith and wife, Sonya, of Garland, Texas; four grandchildren, Larry Isham, of College Station, Texas, Jeff Kelley, of Austin, Texas, Wendy Chavez, of Plano, Texas, and Misty Castro, of Mesquite, Texas; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Virgil Smith and wife, Dorothy, of Howell, New Jersey, and Douglas Smith and wife, Betty, of Angleton, Texas.
