OBITUARY

William Dudley Tinsley a loved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away August 27, 2015 at the age of 77. "Bill" was born October 17,1937, in Carrollton, Texas to Arthur and Myrtle Tinsley. He was the youngest of seven siblings who included Raymond, Lois, Earl, Vernon, Gerald, Alma and then "Willie" as they often referred to him. He was very close to his brothers and sisters and he and his wife, Martha, of 35 years looked forward to family reunions and often planned special weekends just to spend time together. He met Martha in a single parent's group at church and it truly was a match made in Heaven. Both had two children from previous marriages, Bill, Mike, Cammie and Tracy, and it was apparent from the beginning that they were meant to be together.

In his early years, Bill played football for Carrollton High School. He later joined the United States Army where he served from 1957-62 including time spent in the Korean War. Always a sports fan and an outdoorsman, his most favorite hobbies included hunting, fishing and golf. He so looked forward to opening day of hunting season and the annual Kansas hunting trip he took with his sons and grandsons. That was a highlight of his year.

Always passionate about whatever he did. After the Army, Bill joined the Farmer's Branch Police Department and was on the force during the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. He always had the upmost respect for all first responders and those in public service. During a trip to New York City during the construction of the World Trade Center memorial, Bill made a point to leave his police badge at the site as a tribute to those who lost their lives. Later he spent most of his career in sales where he truly had a gift.

Bill never met a stranger and was often known for telling elaborate stories that always made people laugh. One of his most precious joys was to volunteer as Santa during the holidays. He of course bore a striking resemblance and you could always see someone doing a double take as they walked passed him. But he always exhibited honest joy, a love for life and a giving soul which made him the perfect Santa! He volunteered at the Katy Detention Center for Boys outside of Houston and many other hospitals, schools and churches - whenever and wherever he was asked. He considered it an honor and his ministry to give back and he enjoyed every bit of it.

Bill and Martha were long time active members of Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston. Once moving to Granbury in 2008, it wasn't long before Bill and Martha joined the Triple Cross Cowboy Church where Bill instantly felt right at home. They also became members of the choir at First Baptist Church of Granbury. Bill's love for music was a part of his entire life. He played the guitar and wrote his own music and was often asked to sing at weddings. We will forever miss his large baritone voice.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Myrtle Tinsley; his brothers, Raymond, Earl, Vernon and Gerald; and his sister, Lois.

He is survived by his wife, Martha, and sons, Bill Jr. and his wife Tammy; Michael and his wife Peggy; daughters, Cammie and her husband Jimmy Nowell; Tracy and her husband Derek Jolly. His sister, Alma and her husband John. His grandchildren, Jay Tinsley and his wife Ashley; Jillian and her husband Doug Bell; Trace and Kelsey Tinsley; Olivia and Mitchell Nowell; and Jackson Jolly. And great-grandchildren, Jacob Perkins and Hendricks Bell.

Memorial Service will take place at 10:00 am Monday, August 31, 2015 at Triple Cross Cowboy Church, 3470 N. Lipan Dr., Granbury, TX 76048. Graveside to follow at 2:30 pm at Restland Memorial Park.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.

Memorials may be made to Triple Cross Cowboy Church or to woundedwarriorsproject.org
