BIOGRAPHY
W. L. (Bill) Cox (8-26-1902 - 4-1967) moved his family to Farmers Branch in
December 1928, where he leased some Perry land to farm. By 1932 the Coxes moved
to Bee Street and Mr. Cox worked for the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Tax
department. He served on the Farmers Branch School Board, taught the Men's
Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church was a 32nd degree Mason, and
strongly supported Little League Baseball. Shortly after his election to the
City Council in April 1967, Mr. Cox died of a heart attack. Mrs. Vera Vincent
Cox, 94, still loves on Goodland Street. She and Bill had four children: Robert,

OBITUARY SERVICES HELD
FOR BILL COX
Funeral services for William L. (Bill) Cox, 64, of 13115 Goodland, a newly
elected Farmers Branch city councilman, were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday in the
First Baptist church, Farmers Branch.
The Rev. Glen Hayden, pastor, officiated, assisted by the Rev. Gola B. Bailey,
former pastor of the church, and the Rev. Wayne Allen, pastor of the First
Baptist Church in Carrollton.
Graveside rites at the Keenan Cemetery in Farmers Branch were conducted by
members of the James A. Smith Masonic Lodge N. 395. AM&FM. Burial was in charge
of Rhoton Weiland-Merritt Funeral Home.
Mr. Cox, a Farmers Branch resident for more than 33 years died suddenly at a
Farmers Branch hospital Friday.
A pioneer resident of the city, Mr. Cox swerved on the local school board for 14
years and was a former tax assessor-collector for the Farmers Branch School
District. He was elected to the city council in April.
A native of Red Oak. Ellis County, he was a retired Dallas County employee and
former deputy sheriff.
He served as chairman on the committee formed to incorporate and set the city
limits of Farmers Branch many years ago and also served as vice-president of the
Farmers Branch Chamber of Commerce.
A dedicated worker in his church, Mr. Cox was instrumental in starting the first
Boy Scouts Troop in the city and served as the first Scoutmaster. He also
assisted in starting the first Little League baseball team in the city.
Mr. Cox was a 32nd Degree Mason and was active in the local lodge. He was an
accountant in his own local business.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Vera Mae Cox; two sons, M. F. Cox of Farmers
Branch and Robert L. Cox of Carrollton, two daughters, Mrs Maurine Pollard of
Farmers Branch and Mrs. Charline Shehane of Carrollton; a brother C. M. Cox of
Irving; six sisters, Mrs. Lois Cox of Carrollton, Mrs. Opal Cheshier and Mrs.
Ruby Baer, both of Farmers Branch. Mrs. Ruth Owns and Mrs. Cleo West, both of
Dallas, and Mrs. Pearl Nutting of Midlothian, and nine grandchildren.

OBITUARY William L. Cox,
Councilman, Dies at Age 64
FARMERS BRANCH, Texas - Funeral services for William L. Cox, 64, of 13115
Goodland, a newly elected Farmers Branch city councilman, will be held at 3 p.m.
Monday in the First Baptist Church here. Burial will be in
Farmers Branch Cemetery.
A Farmers Branch resident for 38 years, Mr. Cox died here Friday.
The former tax assessor-collector for the Farmers Branch School District, he had
won a slot on the city council in April.
Mr. Cox, a Red Oak, Ellis County, Native, was employed with the Dallas police
department and the county sheriff's office before joining the Dallas County tax
office in 1950.
He became the Farmers Branch school tax assessor-collector in the mid-1950s,
retiring in 1959.
Survivors: Wife; two sons, Robert L. Cox of Carrollton and M. F. Cox of Farmers
Branch; two daughters, Mrs. Maureen Pollard of Farmers Branch and
Mrs. Charline
Shehane of Carrollton; a brother, C. M. Cox of Irving; six sisters, Mrs. Lois
Cox of Carrollton, Mrs. Opal Cheshier and Mrs. Ruby Baer of Farmers Branch,
Mrs.
Ruth Owens and Mrs. Cleo West of Dallas and Mrs Pearl Nutting of Midlothian,
and nine grandchildren.
