OBITUARY

William A. Gravley

Funeral services for William Arthur Gravley, 70, a retired farmer, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the South Cliff Christian Church, 716 Garza, with the Rev. Norman Dyer, the Rev. Norman W. Conner and the Rev. E. C. Rowand officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Land Memorial Park.

Gravley died Thursday in a Dallas Hospital after a long illness. He resided at 4212 Cedar Springs.

Gravley was born and lived most of his life around Carrollton. He moved to Dallas about 10 years ago.

He was a member of the Central Church and Knights of Pythias.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Spence of Canton,  Van Zandt County; Mrs. Evelyn Jobe of Farmers [Branch]; Frances Price of Carrollton; five [?] Celina, Colin County and Mrs. Frances Price of Carrollton; five sons, Thurman Gravley of Tyler, Joe Gravley of Roanoke and Milburn Gravley, Lee Gravley, and Wilton Gravley of Carrollton; a brother Glen Gravley of Dallas; a sister, Mrs. Ester Halliburton of California, 23 grandchildren and two great grandchildren

    Arthur Gravley's parents came to TX from Pickens South Carolina in winter of 1880. He had one sister, Ada M. who married Edward Davis May and two half siblings, Glen Gravley who married Mildred L. Butts and Esther who married Frank Halliburton. He was married June 26, 1907 to Pearl Perry, daughter of DeWitt Perry and Francis Sarah Grimes of Carrollton TX. He was a Carrollton TX School Board Trustee, 1913; Sunday School Superintendent, First United Methodist Church, Carrollton; member of Carrollton School Board, 1915-1916; Football Coach, 1917, with winning team, Dallas Co TX Championships; charter member, Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department serving as nozzelman.
