OBITUARY Margye Cluck
Margye Mayes Cluck, 84, descendant of a pioneer Metrocrest family, died
Saturday, Jan. 6, 1990, at Meadowgreen Convalescent Center in Dallas after a
long illness.
She was born Nov. 17, 1905 at Round Grove, a German settlement between
Lewisville and Carrollton, the second of 10 children born to
Edgar Pleasant
Mayes and Louise Duwe Mayes. In 1918 the family moved to Trinity Mills.
She was a graduate in 1924 of Carrollton High School. After graduating
from Baylor Belton College, now Mary Hardin-Baylor University, she returned to
Carrollton where she taught for three years.
In 1931, she married Thomas C. Cluck, who at his death was a night cable editor
for United Press. They lived in Kansas City, Oklahoma City and Mamaroneck, N.Y.,
where Mr. Cluck died in 1955. In new York, Mrs. Cluck continued her
teaching career and was very active in church and community affairs. Shortly
before her return to live in Texas, the village of Mamaroneck designated "Margye
Cluck Day" to honor her for more than 40 years of service to that community.
She was past president of the PEO and a member of the
Peters Colony Historical
Society and attended Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas.
She is survived by a daughter, Virginia C. Levy of New Fairfield, Conn.; a
grandson, Thomas R. Levy; four brothers, C. E. "Count" Mayes,
E.D. Mayes,
F.W.
"Ted" Mayes and Jack H. Mayes; and five sisters,
Fredda Wilcher, Merle Isom,
Christine Wallace,
Cora Cerniak and Regina Stephens.
Services were Jan. 15 at Sparkman-Hillcrest Northwest Highway Chapel. The Rev.
Clyde Bizzell and the Rev. Charles Denman officiated. Burial was in Grapevine
Cemetery. Pallbearers were Johnny Cerniak, Charles Dudley Mayes, Michael
Mayes, Rick Mayes, Ron Mayes, Terry Mayes, Dan Stephens, Jim Stephens and Bill
