OBITUARY

E. P. Mayes, Carrollton, Dies at 79

CARROLLTON, Texas. - Edgar Pleasant Mayes, a retired farmer who lived in Carrollton since 1907, died in a Dallas hospital Monday after a long illness. He would have been 80 years old June 15.

Born in Tennessee, Mayes moved to Lewisville in his youth and married the former Louise Duwe on April 27, 1902. Five years later they moved to Carrollton.

Mayes, a much-appreciated humorist and story-teller, liked to tell how all 10 of his children graduated from the same high school in Carrollton.

He and Mrs. Mayes celebrated their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary only a month ago. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carrollton.

He is survived by his wife; four sons, C. E. Mayes, Edgar D. Mayes and F. A. Mayes of Dallas and Jack H. Mayes of Midlothian; six daughters, Mrs. Margie Cluck of Mamaroneck, N.Y., Mrs. Fredda Wilcher of Plainview, Mrs. Cora Cerinak of Garland and Mrs. Merle Isom, Mrs Christine Wallace and Mrs. Regina Stephens of Dallas; two brothers, Charlie Mayes of Arlington and Walter Mayes of Farmers Branch; two sisters, Mrs. Maud Cunningham of Lewisville and Mrs. Lula Smith of Argyle, Denton County and 14 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church here with the Rev. L. M. Joines officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Dallas.

Pallbearers will be Leslie Mayes, Frank Smith, Clifford Mayes, Glynn Cunningham, Conrad Duwe, George Duwe, Bill Duwe, Herbert Lunow, Harold Blassingame and Tommie Vandergriff.

Mayes, Midlothian; daughters, Mrs. Margie Cluck, Mamaronek, N. Y.; Mrs. Merle Isom, Mrs. Christine Wallace, Mrs. Regina Stephens, Dallas; Mrs. Fredda Wilcher, Plainview; Mrs. Cora Cerniak, Garland; brothers, Charley and Walter Mayes; sisters, Mrs. Maude Cunningham, Mrs. Lula Smith. Services were Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Chruch, Carrollton, with Rev. L. M. Joines officiating. Interment was in Forest Lawn. Pallbearers were Leslie and Clifford Mayes, Glenn Cunningham, Frank Smith, Harold Blassingame, Tommy Vandergriff, Herbert Lunow, Conrod, Bill and George Duwe. Rhoton Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
